Don’t Just Eat the Banana, Wear It.

Let’s talk skincare, friends.

At least 24 bananas per week are consumed in my household, and still, I had never heard about a banana peel mask.

(Did you know that the average American eats about 38 bananas over the course of one year? And what do we generally do with the peel? We immediately toss it.)

But, if you are looking to not let the peel go to waste and:

  • repair skin damage
  • reduce wrinkles
  • treat acne and acne scarring

Then take the peel of a ripened banana (not the entire peel, just a sliver) and gently massage your face with the inside of that peel until this inner part becomes brown-like and rather mushy. I tend to leave this mask on for a good half-hour.

Then wash your face, otherwise you may notice more fruit flies in your home. Just saying. (However, in addition to my 30 minute mask in the morning, I do leave this mask on overnight for it to really work its magic; my husband is a very patient man with my skincare routine, and it’s only a matter of time until he participates in my face fun. Agenda at its finest. Lol.)

There are a ton of tutorials about this DIY treatment, but my personal favorite is that from DIY beauty blogger, Himani Wright.

The results I have seen, thus far, include fading acne scars and skin that just looks more hydrated and bright (think glow-like, not oily.)

I have learned to not save the peel (e.g. store it in the fridge for later), but to just start the treatment when done eating the banana. Note: do this in the privacy of your own home so as to avoid getting some side eye in public–“Is there a problem?”

Never allow yourself to be defined by someone else’s opinion of you.
