Do You Have Baking Soda?

Did you know baking soda helps relieve itchy mosquito bites? One summer, I had a ton of bites on my calves–the consequences of enjoying a lovely summer night in the park. A friend suggested I make a paste with just a little water and baking soda, and apply it to the itch. It was a messy process, but it worked.

Fast forward several years to now, I recently learned about baking soda as an exfoliator. So while you attend to the sting, perhaps set aside a second bowl to exfoliate your skin. Again, just two ingredients are necessary–baking soda and distilled water. I prefer distilled water since it is free of additives, chlorine, and contaminants. (Please note, I do not drink distilled water, I only use it for skin recipes.)

Once a week, I apply this exfoliant to my skin, gently, and in a circular motion, for no more than two minutes. Then, rinse and pat dry. I have noticed some redness and a little tingling where I might have been too heavy-handed in my application. Baking soda is effective, but still a hard powder. Proceed with caution (be gentle with your skin.)

You can’t argue the price either. I just bought a box for ninety-nine cents. In fact, I would not be surprised if you have it in your cupboard or fridge now.

We already have everything we need (including baking soda)!
